I have had a couple of fossil walks along the beach. The mud slide to the west of Charmouth continues to move and spreads out into the sea and cuts the beach off at high water. At the foot of the mud flow is a band of sticky mud and the sunken footprints of people trying to cross it. I have seen the mud remove shoes, trainers, and wellington boots and in one case the jeans of a young woman who was trapped and airlifted from the mud by the Coastguard Helicopter. The young lady had tried to cross the mud but quickly lost footing and sank into the goo up to her waist. The helicopter was called. By securing a strap around the poor woman, she was pulled clear using the helicopter winch …. unfortunately, her jeans were left behind!
